History

Built in 1984, the design, clearly defines the main worship area, sheltered under one roof. The secondary functions of the church are gathered round the central space, with open glazed areas on all four sides to suggest the light of Christ emanating and extending outwards.

A number of additional features include chapels of Our Lady and the Sacred Heart, a modern setting for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, mother and babies room, special facilities for the disabled. The materials used are of a high standard, and are, in most cases, maintenance free.

The Altar, Ambo, Chair, Font and Crucifix

The Altar, ambo, chair and font are carved by hand from single blocks of Kilkenny limestone. The holy water fonts and tabernacle shelf fonts are carved in the same material.

The inscription on font is taken from Psalm 42. The deer symbolises the soul yearning for baptism and redemption.

The crucifix is carved in Spanish chestnut wood. It is slender in contract to the stone. An image of a suffering, yet triumphant, embracing Christ. Christ our light.

The Tabernacle

The design of the tabernacle incorporates the symbol of light superimposed on a rough textured background. The highlights of the design are highly polished to contrast the brickwork. The Pascal candlestick is rough cast in heavy pattern depicting the ‘Light’ received from Christ. Altar candlesticks are also in bronze and handcrafted.
